Branding: GORUDEN WIKU for MICHIZAKI

Commissioned wall panel for izakaya Michizaki (Braga).

The brief was to create a seasonal wall panel, to celebrate the coming of Spring. In Japan, springtime embodies the beginning of natural and social life cycles, and its arrival is marked with numerous celebrations and festivities. It's a period of renewal, rebirth, and regrowth. While cherry trees (sakura) are blossoming everywhere, a traditional ritual takes place - Hanami, the observation fo flowers in bloom.

The concept for this illustrated panel finds its roots in Japan's traditional Golden Week – Gōruden Wīku, a holiday week in which most families leave their homes and travel, celebrating life, and fully embracing the vitality of the renewed earth.

We wanted to convey this sense of serene joy, and life in bloom. So, for the first time, the illustration depicts not only natural landscape motifs, but also people and animals.

We’ve kept in mind in trying to make the panel warm, but not not too loud, in terms of color or design, in order to play with the restaurant’s prevalent gorgeous furniture design.

The illustrated panel was later converted into a surimono, a complimentary print to be offered to Michizaki's customers at the end of the season.

Thank you!
