The Chinese Door God
The project objective is to choose one Chinese object and study its meaning. A set of opposite emotional adjectives are required to introduce into the object. The final outcome is a set of illustration with simplified object and typeface.
My topic is the Chinese Door God. A door god is a Chinese decoration placed on each side of an entry to a temple, home, business, etc., which is believed to keep evil spirits from entering. It is an interesting challenging topic. The long history and stories of Chinese Door God is fun to study. However, because of its existing image in people's mind and its complicate forms, it is rather hard to simplify or modify its form in actual case.
I have chosen " Energetic" and " Stiff " as the adjectives. They are human-orientated words , which suit the human form of Door God. The forms of Door Gods are simplified according to their abstract motions. To bring out their characters, the shapes and the forms of the visuals are carefully arranged and outlined.
