Headpiece design for Lady Macbeth, the original concept being a grand crown of bones, to signify the tainted conditions by which she came into power. I then utilized the shaping of the traditional Russian Kokoshnik headdress to generate a sense of exaggerated grandeur alongside the texture of bone I achieved through a thin application of plaster, giving the sense she is attempting to conceal the truth with spectacle. The final element of the design is the embroidered hands on the back of the skullcap and threads on the ends, referencing the imagery found in Shakespeare's text and communicating her overwhelming sense of guilt and beginnings of her unraveling.
