I had to design a useful and aesthetic product using the material ’MC-Pet’ for the Japanese company Furukawa. This material is known for its diffuse reflective skills. I decided to design an indoor plantcare product for people living in flats and shadowy areas. I looked at existing plant growth systems  and kitchen machines for inspiration.

It was a real challenge to integrate all the technology into a compact, well-shaped product. I decided to go with a cylinder base.

While finalising the overall shape I assembled mockups of plastic, cardboard and paper parts.

The capsule shape provides an integrated, compact look. The product is capable of growing 32 seedlings and requires little care to maintain.

A smartphone application can be used to water plants, set the temperature, check the humidity and make statistics. It also has its own encyclopedia filled with fun facts and tips.
