LUCID // NH7 Weekender'17

WHAT IS THE THEME ?
The theme for this year’s installations is ‘YOUR HAPPY PLACE’.

Artists are required to interpret the theme in their own way and create installations that evoke a positive response and suggest ways in which we can make the world a happier place for all to live a positive response and suggest ways in which we can make the world a happier place for all to live in.

They’re looking for installations that not only draw people’s attention, but also make them stop, think and most importantly, react.
Our Concept
Our mind is constantly trying to make sense of our world. We pull in dissimilar information and our mind tries to connect it with what we already know. So to evoke positive outcomes and to facilitate this process, we created LUCID that allows to think beyond what we see and reveal endless thought.

Persistence of vision refers to the optical illusion that occurs when the visual perception of an object does not cease for some time after the rays of light preceding from it has ceased to enter the eye.
The installation help to look at our thinking in a new light and then to reframe it, to challenge the way we think and as a result the way we act. New behaviour will follow from a new way of thinking.

The installation fuses the mind of the viewer and avails in engendering mind focus and stability of the illusion. An inviting outdoor installation following human interaction to evoke positive responses and initiate conversations within people to help make the world a better place.

The metal frame is made of 1 inch square pipes, which in then cladded with MDF(medium density fibreboard) on the inside and Acrylic mirror on the outside.

To achieve fast rotation of the blades, we used a single phased 1000 rpm motor with 60 watts power output.

Each of the POV displays measure 4 feet in diameter, and are best viewed when standing directly in front of it.

A carbon brush, also known as a motor brush, that conducts electrical current between the stationary wires (stator) and the rotating wires (rotor) of a motor was used to supply power to the LEDS.which were mounted on the balde.

Dotstar leds are best for achieving persistence of vision as it has extreme fast data and PWM rate.
Dotstar has 20 hz refresh rate where as neo-pixel have 400 hz refresh rate which is slow to achieve pop patterns and smooth blending of the colours.

By day, the monolithic mirrored volumes are prisms of earth and sky, wrapped by the surrounding environment.
By night, the propeller display based on Persistence of vision creates a hypnotic effect where revellers could explore ideas of colour theory, optics, perception, scale and technology.
Sometimes the colors appear to be synchronized, and at other times each light element almost appears chaotic and detached from the next. It will offer revellers a places to relax and take in the installation, watching the pulsating and shifting colors.
Funnily distorted reflection on the reflective surface proved to be a  conversation starter amongst many strangers.
