Spectacles: A Look at the History of Eyewear is a a fictitious museum exhibition shown at the
Museum of Glass in Tacoma Washington, exploring the technological development and design influence of eyeglasses.

The Spectacles logo is created from a modified Didot – the thin strokes are removed leaving the most legible features. The blurring and sharpening of the mark conveys the idea of vision without overt eyes or lenses.

The exhibition website features a continuous horizontal scrolling layout, by ways of left/right scrolling or navigational buttons in the bottom right hand corner. When a menu option is selected, the page scrolls down vertically, circles animating overtop as as transition inspired by an optometrist’s phoropter machine.

The website offers an interactive timeline, in which users can scrolling through featured artifacts by rotating the phoropter dial on the right of the screen.

As a comprehensive UI/UX experience, the museum website is entirely mobile compatible.

In the exhibition space itself, the accompanying museum app lets users virtually “try on” the eyewear and interact with VR characters of the artifact’s time period.
