Sweep Me Off My Feet

Inspired by the experience of depersonalisation, the passage of time and the flow of music, “Sweep Me Off My Feet” experiments with the medium of the graphic comic and concertina books to create a piece which can be read as a linear story and also experienced wholly as a piece of art.
Entirely hand-illustrated with watercolours and acrylic ink, the piece visually captures a darker side to the morning commute
and its plain palette generates a tentative and solemn mood.

By contrasting between the traditional comic grid and freeform illustration, and between organic watercolour illustration and bold line work, the audience is carried into a journey from reality to emotion.

Its name which traditionally evokes positive emotions of love entirely juxtaposes the visual and story of the comic, illustrating the theme of disparity between reality and emotion, and desire to escape.
