STUDENT WORK: ART DIRECTION
NTSU SNUFF: Etla ke go botse
Pendoring Nomination - Print Communications Category
Junior Mokoma
2016
This print campaign features three local official languages of South Africa: SeTswana, Southern Sotho and Pedi respectively. The work translates to the following:

Etla ke go botse   |   Let me tell you.

Heeee Maditaba...    | An expression used to catch someone's attention. Maditaba is a common African name in Sotho culture which can be use to describe someone else's personality as nosey.

Yhooooo O Kwile?   |   A common expression used to express a feeling of excitement, disbelief or reassurance. O Kwile means; "Have you heard?".

The tagline in all instances have been translated to contain the message "The real conversation starter."
TABASCO: The Heat is On
Khieran Goosen created this Illustrative campaign for Tabasco in 2016. During that year the political climate in South Africa was beginning to heat up, and students felt the need to deliver their own commentary on the rising heat some public figures where finding themselves in.
LUCKY STAR: Ayeye!
Koketjo Masebe created this great Pendoring Nomination in the Print Communications category in 2016. Children naturally have an inquisitive and imaginative mind, and this advert depicts a local, indigenous game that children usually play. The 'game' is using found objects that substitute real life objects - in this case, a convertible vehicle is shaped out of an ordinary brick that has it's top corner cut off.
LION SAFETY MATCHES: Strike Up. Speak Up.
Deacon van Wyk made this incredibly thought provoking campaign in 2016. It features ordinary matches that he laser etched with words that could have a dual meaning, depending on which part of the word you read. The idea is that these matches will strike up a conversation relating to the topic etched into the match - since, when you strike it, it burns away the negative part of the message, leaving only the positive thought to be viewed.
YELLOWBONE KAPPA DARKIE:
Pendoring Nomination  - Print Communications category
Reginald Sedibe
2014
Tasked to create a single page advert for the prestigious Pendoring Awards in 2014, created this thought provoking advert for Savanna Dark. The headline, "Yellowbone Kappa Darkie?" is South African vernacular which means if you're light skinned, would you like to have a dark drink?

VOLKSWAGEN: It's a Race Thing
Regi also created this thought provoking advert for the South African market. It features two identical Golf GTI's next to each other, while the headline plays on the word 'race'. Racial discrimination is still a huge debate in South Africa, and highlighting the double meaning in this context, is quite interesting.
ZAMBUK:
Loeries Nomination
Nico Jansen van Rensburg
2014
This campaign was created for the well-known South African brand, Zambuk. It features hand pressed bumps on printed 'skin', and etches out the words 'relief', and 'breathe' in English, and 'velig', 'kalmeer' and 'verlos' in Afrikaans so simulate the effects of this well-known and well-loved "Doctor in your Pocket" - Zambuk ointment.
CHEVROLET SPARK: Campus Chatter
This campaign was created by Boudine Smith in 2014. She correctly identified that the parents of students are usually the one's who would buy their children their first car, and this meant that the campaign needs to speak only to that market, and not the young adults who would drive it.
SUPERSPORT: The Understatement
This print campaign was created in 2012 by Dane de Klerk for Supersport, the main sport television network broadcasting on DSTV in South Africa. It features the diversity and over enthusiastic nature the channel and it's viewers portray, which could lead to newly invented sports that combine a number of sports into one.
