This font design, named as “Burning Soul Dazzle” is inspired by one of the Buddhist symbols, the "Swatstika", for its straigtforwardness and clean lines. For the purpose of this design exercise, we opted for a structure that’s short in width and stretched out vertically to give each letter an elongated and slim appeal.

During the Qin dynasty, Chang Jie was the founder of Chinese characters. Each Chinese character has a profound presentationon culture and connotations (meanings). However, modern people abuse this valuable text form, forming un-connotative words and modifying them to suit the modern way of speech or writing, a practice that led the Chinese characters to keep evolving over time – for better or for worse. Therefore, we as designers felt the need to retain a certain kind of genuineness to the text form, hence we sought inspiration from the “Swatstika” – a symbol of Buddhism for “well being” or “good fortune” – with the motif perhaps representing the movement of the sun through the sky, a straight line.

Chinese characters still and will always have a place in the modern world, just like any other centuries-old languages that have been passed down over generations. It is therefore in our best interest to offer a different yet contemporary image to the Chinese characters for use in these modern times. We call our font design “Burning Sould Dazzle”.
