Gill Sans - Typebook

Gill Sans - Typebook

Objective:
Build a solid foundation on the principles of typography, computer type setting, and typographic layout by writing a research paper and developing a 16 page publication over Eric Gill & Gill Sans.

Solution:
The widely known publishing house Penguin Books is famously known for using Gill Sans, and most of my inspiration came from that. Instead of making my publication orange, their main color, I decided my color palette would derive colors from all of the original Penguin Books book covers: orange, blue, yellow and sea green. After some modifications to make these colors work, I had my color palette. I decided to create a pattern with the typeface itself to showcase every aspect of Gill Sans, ranging from the thinnest italic to the boldest capital letter. The cover is also inspired by Penguin Books: instead of the white being on the design I chose to belly band it.
