A Collage Made in LA

Communication objective
We saw Los Angeles as a painted canvas in the style of Jackson Pollock's abstract impressionism. The chaos, anarchy, and randomness that creates a cohesive picture in a Pollock painting represent Los Angeles. We wanted to crop the focus on Melrose Ave., a specific part of the Los Angeles canvas, and capture the texture, color, movement, and mood of this historic part of Los Angeles. Our goal was to express what it feels like to be there through film and motion graphics.

A brief explanation
The project was produced by going out and shooting Melrose Ave., and also the Melrose Trading Post. Prior to shooting, we looked at the history of Melrose Ave., and the different movements that influenced Melrose like punk and bohemian culture. We explored what this would look like typographically as well as visually. Vintage style plays a part in what Melrose looks like today, so we utilized old film grain and textures, and created a color palette that reflected our research. This piece was limited to a minute to capture the flavor of Melrose Ave.
