Stylised 3D Animation

The desire to create a stylised animation was brought on by having viewed the film Loving Vincent in the cinema in 2017. It was one of the first ever fully hand painted movie that was filmed and then painted in oil paint frame by frame by over a 100 different people. The results that was achieved was a Vincent Van Gogh style animation discussing his last few days. There have been many other examples of studios creating stylised animations in this fashion since; such as ANNIE from the League of Legends. This project went through a production cycle to determine all the details that were required in order for this project to be successful.

The models were all created using Autodesk's Maya and were UV Mapped in the same software. Then the models were exported to Substance Painter, where they were textured and given any other details that were important for the animation. Photoshop was used in this project to help create a normal map for the fish. This was achieved by using the model that was created for the coins and taking an image of the coin. This was then turned into a normal map that was arranged in the right order to help create a fish-scale like look to be applied on the fish. There were many different techniques used to help create this animation. The showreel below helps showcase the important techniques that were required as well as showing the final result of the project.
