Motion Graphics for RUNE

Creating Motion Graphics Marketing Elements
In early 2018, I was lucky enough to have the amazing opportunity of being commissioned to composite a small series of Motion Graphics for Human Head Studios' latest project: Rune.

Rune is a third-person, open-world RPG set in a dangerous Norse universe where gods, beasts, and the last remaining humans struggle to survive. (Courtesy of the Developers' website, linked below).

Using Adobe After Effects, I created sliders, animated the main title graphic, and edited large format digital signage for LED screens as shown below. It was truly an honor to work on this project, and to be challenged with tight deadlines and such a dedicated team of passionate storytellers and creatives. This was certainly one of my favorite projects of the year, and would love to be involved with more like this in the future.

With the video game being centered on Norse mythology, I made sure to do my research on recurring themes and objects within that realm. One of the more interesting concepts I had stumbled upon was the Vegvesir, which is essentially a magical compass that leads the way through even the toughest weather conditions for its wearer. In learning what Ragnarok was as an event in Norse mythology, it seemed like a decent concept to implement this somewhere in the visuals. I was happy to find out that the team liked this idea enough to use it in their weekly webisodes for a questions countdown.

Originally, the graphic had a a transparent background, but that made the numbers a bit difficult to see, so it was filled in with black as a solution.

The video above displays the seventy-foot LED Marquee wall in which I animated a set of concept art (created by their team's artist) for, as well as the smaller video wall animation displaying the game title. You can see more of their team's concept artwork below.

This video was sent to me about a week after I had finished the composition, and I could barely contain my excitement. Never had I seen something I had done, or been a part of, be displayed on such a large scale.

I'm still in complete awe months later.

This was another LED video wall I edited a few compositions together in Adobe After Effects for RUNE. This one was a healthy challenge for me. Due to the nature of the video wall (which had thicker black bars on its sides), I had to use a very specific AE template to place my comps in to get the timing and display just right. The motion graphic with the animated title can be seen at the end of this video as well. A team member had also sent this video my way, which was the best kind of payoff in the end. I would absolutely love to create visuals for larger screens in my future.
