Before starting the final year of my degree in modelmaking at the arts university college Bournemouth I spent two weeks working at secondhome studios, an animation company specialising in stop motion productions. I worked on a project for the broadcaster CITV called share a story, where viewers submit a story, the winners are selected and the story then made into a short animation.
I worked on giving the 2d character designs a physical form and created sone simple plastacine puppets as well as a more complex puppet for the main character zero.
All the differnt numbers had distinctive personalities and made them great fun to sculpt.
For the main character, zero I made a version out of super sculpey which after baked was used to make a silicone mould. From this mould we cast a few plaster versions as well as a poly urethne foam version with an internal armature.
Zero was then decorated with plastacine and habidashery beads to represent the icing and sprinkles.
I had a great time working at secondhomestudios and seeing the characters come to life was a very rewarding experience.
