My Thesis project "There Are So Many of Us" is a series of large scale oil paintings. It represents social and individual struggles to come to terms with the question of what comprises human experience. I aim to echo intense emotions that are to be interpreted within a moral and cultural context. I work in the surrealist style with a highly saturated palette of chromatic color. My paintings consist of representational creatures in bizarre fairytale environments. Gravity rarely exists. Space is often distorted. The images are mostly quiet and movement is controlled yet subtle. While beauty is often noted in appearance, there is also a desolate–sometimes tragic feeling to the pieces.
