Experimental Brushstrokes

This is at a point where I was getting curious about the limitations of oil paint. Interested in the viscosity and the opacity of adding white to colours, thinking about what that says to the visual and contextual meaning of my paintings. Adding white really changes the dynamics of the colours and how they work together, making it softer, but also stronger and bold. This is also at a time where I wanted to experiment with the paint itself, layering it up with looser brush strokes, but also keeping them contained within a perimeter. The painting at the bottom is inspired by Richard Diebenkorn Ocean Park Paintings and how he uses white in his paintings to create a powerful but calming presence. This is my attempt at doing a similar thing but with a direct focus on geometry.
