Place in Orbit - PSLV - C 37 Satellite Inspired Insta

Place in Orbit* is an extensive, long-term inquiry into objects that are inspired and influenced by shapes, colors, materials, and data of space satellites. The installation made for Bengaluru Fantastic 2017 is the realisation of its first stage, an Interactive public art experience, weaving across layers of physical objects and Augmented Reality. Simulacrum models of satellites from India's iconic space mission PSLV-C37, which set the world record for the most satellites launched simultaneously, are used to create an installation setup that revels new dimensions of reception and meaning beyond the original scientific and technological purpose of the initial objects.

This project was held by Thomas Heidmann and executed by Students at Srishti Institute of Arts, Design and Technology.

The Installation consists of four parts: a mission control panel, a sculptural object inspired by the mission cargo CartoSat-2D, and smaller satellites that simulate CubeSats. Connected with each other via sound, light, sensors, and interaction modes these objects monitor and engage a communication between the pieces themselves as well as with the visitors.
The result of this monitoring is visible through a mission control panel broadcasting it simultaneously and providing an access point for the visitor's interaction.
Augmented Reality -  The Interaction with the CubeSats was such that the sensors identified Distance, temperatures and proximity, which had outcome in the form of Augmented Reality. Mission Control table also had AR chairs and set up along with real-time Data analysis with Imaging and quantitative Data.

My role in the project-
The CartoSat-2D consisted of a Kinect motion sensor, which acted like a live monitor surveilling the movement happening in that space. It collected Data from the live motion happening and that was edited in the software Derivative Touch Designer which created Visuals that consisted of Infrared imaging, decay effect and RGB delay which I experimented along.Through these visuals we could achieve the purpose of experiencing how temperature changes, slow building processes and delays perform. The live Imaging was getting displayed on the Mission Control table Screen which served the complete purpose of making a Human monitoring satellite.
