Lights are an integral part of any festival. Since the past three years, during the festival of Diwali I’ve been decorating our home not with the standard market lights but by the DIY lamps I developed.
Initially, the first year I made circular cardboard frames to hold the cloth and lights. The next year I made a simple yet sturdy wire frame, which held the lights and cloth & yet gave a flowy look to it. I also experimented with the fabric using Chiffon initially, and then Georgette and finally the third year used Satin, which gave it a rich look. Colour combinations were tried out too, and embellishments attached such as tassels on the corners. I’ve been improvising, exploring possibilities and improving the design every year.
I am now inclined to float it out in the market as a ‘DIY lamp’ in the future.
