The symbols represents (from top to bottom) the three alchemical states: Nigredo, Albedo, Rubedo. From the putrefaction of the Ego to the realization. The being paints the states is the Alchemist that creates the evolution inner alchemical.

This illustration represents the sense of waiting of a something will never come but with the hope that everything changes. The man us drowned, it's aged, motionless and deluded that something will come... While he writes his own life that slips away in the time reclining in his solitude. The wait is like the Wind: it exists but you don't see it, it's inside.
