Anatomical Illustration
A medical student was looking for an Illustrator for renderings of organs and bones. I applied, although I hadn't have any experience in this field before. After a proof of my abilities we worked together for a while. Above you can see a final result. Our process was very simple: he had the anatomical knowledge and knew what he wanted to be depicted and prepared a simple sketch for me, with easy to understand anatomical explanations.
Then I took what he carefully prepared for me and did the illustration, step by step. First laying out the flat colors and shapes and after his feedback, if everything was on the right place, I started rendering the piece. Now and then I sent in the work in progress for questions or to make sure everything is where it was supposed to be, as the illustrations needed to be as correct as possible.

For learning purposes, I did the same drawings in a few different ways. Like for example: drew the kidney, then reused that drawing in another illustration and added the adrenal gland or made a cross section to show the vessels inside. I have no extraordinary anatomical knowledge, except for the one I accumulated during my work with this medical student and really appreciated the time he took, to explain to me what I am actually illustrating.

Sometimes there was a need to show a certain kind of vessel system like the lymphatic system or the nervous system, so I first drew all the organs that were needed, made a transparent vision and then added the vessels or knots or whatever was needed, in a clearly visible way.
A few bones were illustrated as well, but not that many. All images can be used with or without the grey vignette, or certain layers can be activated or deactivated.
For me, it was a very interesting project and I learned a lot during creating these illustrations. My anatomical knowledge was expanded, which I heavily appreciate, since I enjoy scientific and medical topics a lot, as well as my Photoshop skills. All in all I made 15 pieces and every illustration took between 2hrs-8hrs to finish.

If ever I would get a chance to make a similar work again, I would love to do so.
Even though I am a very traditional artist, I like this type of illustration.
