Khanga Water Filter

Khanga Water Filter
This personal project came in response to a Royal Society of Arts creative brief to lighten the burden of water collection for women in the developing world.

The Khanga Water Filter is a women’s wrap garment which can be used to improve the quality of dirty water. They are designed towards illiterate women, featuring pictograms that communicate instructions on how to use the material to treat water.

There is further potential to communicate vital information such as safe hand-washing (demonstrated), malaria identification and gender equality.
A suggested method for implementing these successfully is through an established charity such as ActionAid. Funding could be raised by a partnership with a bottled water company such as Volvic. The packaging of the water bottle raises awareness of water scarcity, encouraging western consumers to engage with the issue.
