O Projeto KYUSHU é uma iniciativa que deseja aprofundar a amizade e o conhecimento mútuo de Portugal e do Japão, junto dos estudantes mais jovens dos dois países. Desenvolvida no âmbito do projecto, a exposição itinerante De Portugal para Kyushu deseja dar a conhecer, sobretudo ao público infantil e juvenil, os principais campos de interseção entre a história de Portugal e a do Japão, apresentando ainda, os temas que unem as dois países, nos nosso dias.

the exhibition's context

The KYUSHU Project's goal is to deepen the friendship and knowledge between Portugal and Japan amongst students from both countries. The travelling exhibition De Portugal para Kyushu (translation: From Portugal to Kyushu), was developed within this project. Aimed at a younger audience, the exhibition wishes to present the main areas of intersection in the history of Portugal and Japan, as well as what connects this two countries nowadays.

O projecto museográfico tem como inspiração os biombos Namban — peças produzidas por artistas japoneses no século XVI, que narram aspectos da chegada d0s portugueses ao Japão. A estrutra é constituída por dois módulos, de quatro painéis cada, que forma um contínuo de nuvens estilizadas — elementos característicos dos Namban — correspondendo, a cada painel, um fragmento da imagem total, a qual é apenas visível na perspectiva frontal à estrutura expositiva.

The exhibition design's inspiration is the Namban screens — made by 16th century japanese artists, they tell the story of the portuguese arrival at Japan. The structure is made out of two modules, four panels each, that form a continuum of stylized clouds — a key element to the Namban — where each panel corresponds to a fragment of the overall image, that can only be seen from a perspective of standing in front of the structure.
