MAKEit MADEit Conference Event Brand Identity

Back for its third year, MAKEit MADEit Conference returned as one of Australia’s premier creative events for the arts, making and design communities. Set in the east coast city of Newcastle the event delivered unique presentations with Australian and International Artists, Designers and Makers.

Pocket Design continues to support the arts and creative industries with MAKEit MADEit Conference at the forefront of our efforts. Being the event founders, curators, and directors, our main challenge was to create a strong brand that would be respectful in sharing the work of each presenter and immediately communicate with a wider audience within Australia and abroad.

With the brand collateral created for MAKEit MADEit Conference 2017, the event successfully sold out three weeks before the commencement date.

We focused on a handmade approach to the design by sculpting several three-dimensional geometric shapes with directional hand painted graphics. Each shares a unique pattern that is relative to the works of each presenter, the energetic interaction of the audience and the shape of the event as a whole.

The sculpted objects were designed as a strong brand element for flyers, posters, lanyards, magazine advertisements, promotional banners, the event website, and a successful social media strategy. A cleverly designed Instagram grid structure was curated to share all information about the conference including the speakers, exhibitions, side events, the venue, major sponsors and so much more.

Motion studio Cloak Theory were selected as a core collaborator to create an opening title sequence in respect of the speakers and the event as a whole. Using projection mapping and motion graphics, Cloak Theory developed an engaging visual journey for conference attendees, building on the conference's branding and iconic shapes within the designed objects.

For the main event, we invited a selection of national artists, designers, and makers who house a diverse practice to share their unique processes with the audience. We also invited a strong line up of panelists to deliver a discussion on the funding landscape across creative industries.

MAKEit MADEit Conference has proven to be a great success for the creative community and the support of the arts in the city of Newcastle. Through our brand strategy and event management, we've gathered people from across Australia and abroad to share knowledge and process with an audience traveling interstate in Australia and also flying in from overseas.  We couldn't be happier with our efforts in achieving these goals.
