Brett Piva's profile

Abicus / Thrills Back To The Future jacket exhibition

Since 2000, Abicus have provided an in-store retail experience like no other in Newcastle. Their keen interest in music, art, and fashion with an ethos housed around simple, essential and timeless products shares an enjoyable culture with their audience.

For the stores 16th birthday, Abicus teamed up with Byron Bay fashion label Thrills to deliver an exhibition to raise awareness and critical funds for the youth mental health service, Headspace. With their combined efforts they curated an exhibition with 16 artists from Newcastle and Byron Bay. Each submitted an artwork on Thrills iconic denim jackets for an exhibition with 100% of proceeds going to Headspace.

After being invited to exhibit a jacket, I offered to assist in providing an extensive amount of brand collateral that would bring more awareness to the cause. Every piece of brand collateral was produced and provided free of charge by Pocket Design in aid of raising funds for youth mental health across Australia.

Brand Identity Design + Lettering Design + Print Design + Gold Leaf Gilding + Sign Painting + Contemporary Art
A logo design was created to match the simple, essential and timeless approach of the store while also emoting a warped presence in relation to the event title Back to the Future. A suite of brand collateral was created in the form of flyers, brochures, posters and social media engagement.

To share the event with a more direct approach, we offered to create a window display by hand painting an abstract canvas and gold leaf gilding a 12 karat white gold logo with a mirror finish on the storefront window. The canvas acted as a backdrop for both the window display and the live performance by honourable Newcastle outfit Szymon.

We’re still truly humbled to have played our part in providing this extensive amount of work for a more than worthy cause and to be invited to exhibit alongside an impressive line-up of artists. It was truly worth the effort in assisting Abicus to raise $15,000 towards Youth Mental health and Headspace Newcastle.
