Aki-To Hotel Helsinki

Aki-To Hotel
Helsinki, Finland Hotel

This project was completed as part of a brief on briefbox.com. The project is a fictional exercise in design, branding, and marketing.

Situation
My task for this project was to create a logo for a luxury hotel that was opening its doors in Helsinki, Finland. The owner was looking for a young designer to create their new branding. The hotel – owned by two young Finnish architects – was all about modern simplicity; the interior especially emphasizes their love for minimal design.

They wanted their brand to reflect the hotel and its architecture. The client wanted to see an initial brand concept and a mini style-guide to get a sense of possible directions before moving forward.

Solution
I started by making a mood board of hotel logos, images of Helsinki and the architecture in Helsinki.

My plan was to make the logo reference the style of the architecture of the buildings and the culture of Finland, and there's nothing more Finnish than a sauna. For my design I've taken inspiration from Wooden Rock, a public sauna.

I've kept the colour scheme very simple and used the colours of the Finnish flag.

I've made sure to use a modern, bold font that can easily be used on advertising and print on both a small and large scale, along with corporate clothing and stationery.
