SEA BLOCKS
weaving

‘Sea blocks’ is a physical weaved representation of the vast array of needs and demands assembled together in rows and columns in Yelahanka. Our sea of never ending needs stacked up in blocks of blue and orange, sans the breeze of salt and sand, stand silent and stale amidst recycled air intertwined with wafts of sweat.
Sea blocks, though remind one of the colors of the drowning sun over the blue salty coasts is actually derived from the piles of chemical products resting over aisle of deep blue metal shelves. A play on the colors and their representation, Sea blocks show the rigidness of the supermarket, the set paths of wander, the boxes of needs tower higher than you for a price you are ready to pay.
Colors cut vertically and horizontally, margins clear separating the piles, making sure they don’t storm into a wave and take over, rather keep their place and do their job. Attract and sell.
Sea blocks works around the stark difference of both these scenarios, while the color of the fabric manages to connect them to a memory of salty sea breezes and to the reference of the supermarket images, the weave itself cuts the fabrics into designated sections.
