The idea behind the Anti-rape belt was to make a product men could buy to prevent themselves from raping. I obviously don’t believe all men are rapists. This was created as a reaction to various products created within the last few years that are meant to prevent rape from occurring marketed to women such as the anti-rape underwear that were created that make it more difficult for your pants to be removed, or the toothed condom Rape-x that was taken off the market in South Africa.
Through the use of a remote this belt sends an electric shock to its wearer at varied intensities.
I wanted to start a discussion about where society places blame for rape and create a product for a reverse-world that was equally absurd as the one we live in now. This also explores the gender power dynamic as the power of the remote is in the hands of women to be used or abused as they see fit.
