This second-year project is a book design brief and was set by the university. The brief was to design a book with a concept relating to one of nine essays given to us. The essay that I chose was “Victorian Occultism and the Art of Synesthesia” By Benjamin Breen.

I chose to focus on the emotions referenced in the essay and experimented with ways to represent synesthesia and confusion of the senses through photography. The images all represent different emotions, explored through colour, listed in the book “Thought Forms”, which is an integral part of the essay. The half-tone effect on the photographs is a nod to synesthesia and represents noise through vision.
