Surgical Comics: Subscapular Flap Prep
Graphic novels depicting sequential images and stories is a growing interest in medicine, especially in patient education and medical humanities. Inspired by comic-style narratives and graphic abstracts in journals, we created a sequential art comic as the primary figures for a journal article.

We worked with ENT surgeons Jonathan Mark, MD and Yash Patil, MD, we photographed and illustrated their new "Sit and Tilt" technique for harvesting subscapular free flaps. Their paper was published in Journal of Laryngology & Otology 132(2), February 2018.

We were thrilled the journal embraced this comic format and afforded a full page for the figures!
Graphic novels and infographics can help convey complex medical processes and concepts.
