Spinning Centripetal Top (Sprint Design Challenge)

This toy was designed over five days as a part of the sprint design challenge. The age group specified was 6-9 year olds, and there was an additional material constraint of wood, MDF, and metal.

I made a top with a hollowed out space, where there are ball bearings. It has a transparent cover on top that prevents the ball bearings from falling out. There is an additional groove near the top where the ball bearings can sit. There is an extending dowel from the middle of the top to help it spin. The aim is to get as many ball bearings to sit in the groove. This is achieved only when the top is spun due to centripetal force acting on the ball bearings.
