Typographic representation of "lodi mattutine", morning prayers sung during one of the canonical hours of the Roman Catholic Church. I witnessed priests at the Metropolitan Cathedral of San Pietro in Bologna singing these prayers, an audio clip of which I have included above, and wanted to capture the solemn, somber yet hauntingly beautiful atmosphere created by the harmonizing of their deep, reverberating voices and the accompanying pipe organ. Even though it is a morning prayer, the rich, dark color palette is a visual representation of the way their voices seemed to rise from deep inside the earth up to the heavens.
