Prompt and sketches
The prompt for this project was to create a vessel that told a story. To fulfill this project I designed a set of goblets which would mirror each other and illustrate my interpretation of Snow White. I began with a much taller and slimmer silhouette in my sketches but quickly moved to the more dramatic curved goblets seen in the second set of sketches.

Process
I began by measuring out the dimensions of the base and building from that reference point. The pieces were built simultaneously so that they would match. After each piece was built, they were bisque fired. Then a layer of slip was applied to create a ground for the mirror and edge detail. Next the pieces were glazed and fired to 04. After they came out of the kiln, the initial layer of china paint could go on to begin the imagery. China paint requires a firing between each layer of pigment applied . This piece required three firings to achieve the final image.

Outcome
This piece was my first experience working in china paint. It allowed me the opportunity to add a new skill to my illustrative repertoire and to experience the effect re-firing has on glaze. The idea for the imagery gradually evolved over time from merely having the figures on the goblets to framing them within the mirror described in the fairy tale.
