Acceptance of autonomous cars by users is endangered due to their incomprehension of how the vehicle makes its decisions. Showing the vision of the driving AI can increase user psychological comfort. It can also increase safety when autonomy is not possible, by transmitting useful contextual information to the user. The computer visualization relies on the same sensors used by vehicles from any level of autonomy: cameras, radar and LIDAR. These sensors, allied with connected information from vehicles and roads and AI, can see problems way further then our field of vision and predict dangers we may not perceive to happen right in front of us.
Concept developed during the End of Studies Project for the master course UX Design Tangible Interfaces of L’École de Design Nantes Atlantique.
