Our team was offered to design a private residence near Kyiv, on a site with the existing brick structure, square in plan, built in the early '90s. One of the main requirements from the client was to leave the structure and to integrate it into the new project.
Our design solution was to keep the boundaries and two main bearing walls inside and turn the first level into a big open space with living room, kitchen and dining area, as well as storage spaces and a garage for two cars. The bricks from the demolished walls were used as a material for some new ones and the parts of the existing walls which needed to be replaced.
For the second level, we proposed a wooden truss structure which will feature 3 bedrooms with direct access to the two huge terraces. The structure also creates an overhang which protects one from the rain or sun while he/she is making a BBQ near the pool.
