Learning Devnagari Script Structure and Basics

Overview of Project:
Devnagari script is used in languages like Hindi, Marathi, Sanskrit, Konkani and Nepali. Over the years, it has been observed that same kind of processes have been used to teach Devnagari which result in creating less interest in learning the script with expected mannerism. On the other hand, Roman script has received more importance in comparison and is being taught in variant ways. The lack of learning devices of Devnagari script has created a limitation in learning the script with core understanding. This motivated me to work upon creating functional learning devices for Devnagari script.

Problem in depth:
According to research, it has been analyzed that Devnagari script is not taught properly. Only alphabets, numericals and basic 12 matras are taught. Teaching basic forms and proportions of the alphabets has not been given importance except for the general outline of the subject. Neither does the basic Ankalipi provide necessary information about the script nor do the type reference books like Typolog and Lettraset fulfill the necessary requirement. Insufficient knowledge of Devnagari nomenclature creates difficulties to understand type proportion. The most basic concept of short (hrasva) and long (dirgha) matras creates uncertainty.
All the mention are due to lack of knowledge and understanding about the script.

Need of the project:
The need of this project is to educate one about the script structure and make their basics perception clear about Devnagari script by providing them an educational aid or interactive script learning devices. Basic understanding of a concept can guide one through parallel understandings about the problem. These functional learning devices may increase the learning interest of visual communication students and devnagari script learners in their primary learning phase.
