CITYLIGHT //Road Signs

CITYLIGHT | Masterstudio

Every day I cycle to the station because I have to take the train for school. This short ride was the beginning of my project called: ‘Citylight’. After a long day I was tired. Suddenly a red car stops in front of me and I almost fell off my bike. The driver shout out on me: “You have to drive on the other side of the road!”. Actually this made me think that I must do something about this subject. Because I came almost in danger.

I went for a ride with my bike, in a radius of two kilometres around my house. Looking for potential dangers for the cyclist. My focus was on the small and large obstacles and the infrastructure in general. I will convert these photographed dangers into something visual.

The poster tells the whole process of my work. It's divided into three parts, with the logo in the middle. The outside shows the images about the cars in the city (to which I had first focused), the following shows the newspaper articles about the safety of the cyclist. I thoroughly analysed this with the conclusion that a good cycling infrastructure is important. Lastly (around the logo) you see the selection of ten photos about the obstacles of the cyclist.

Road Signs (10)

I have analysed every danger of the photos. With using humor and imagination, I created my own story and draw this out. Then converted to a traffic sign. Demonstrate that many traffic signs are used. Often for unnecessary things, just like this? Own interpretation is allowed. The coordinates of the traffic sign location are beneath the traffic signs. There are also minutes, with this you can find the traffic sign in the video (below).

Citylight consists of three screens: left, center and right. For this setup I based myself on the field of view of the cyclist. I drive past the different locations of traffic signs. The room had to get an appearance from an old theory classroom (eg. where you do your theory exam for the car).
Thanks for watching!
