Boundary Wharf Type/Branding

The area where Boundary Wharf is situated (Chatham/Rochester, Kent, UK) is steeped with history. All the wharfs along this road used to belong to a particular building, had their own names and their own branding, with boats and ships coming and going on a regular basis.

This stretch of the high street today can neither be called Rochester, or Chatham, it doesn't have its own identity despite the fact their is a budding community of artists, designers and shops that use the area. Many people do not realise the history behind this area of the high street and that once upon a time it had two names: "Chatham Intra" or Chatham Without".

Today Boundary Wharf is home to Coal Shed Press, Printed Wonders and Art About who are trying to create a brand for the area to make local people aware of where we are and turn it into an area people know and are interested about.

The start of this project was to create sign posts to the wharf, which I designed the type for along with Xtina Lamb

We lifted type from an original sign belonging to the coal office on the wharf and developed it into a full set of letters and eventually the sign.
The original sign, I lifted the type from.
