Martian on MARS

Goal: Make 20 images of yourself as a Martian or on Mars using montage and collage.

Introduction to Photoshop CC: basic images structures (CMYK, RGB), layers, filters, editing, colors, montage, collage. Image device inputs: cameras, scanners etc.

Software: Photoshop
Resources: NASA, google
Our goal of the assignment is to imagine ourselves as Martians. I tried to pretend as a photographer on Mars. The origin of the photo is gullies on the Northwest rim of the hale crater, elliptical-shaped approximately 150 by 125 kilometers centered on Mars. My idea of this picture is me taking pictures of Mars inside the base. Since my camera is pointing toward the window, the glass will reflect my shade. First, I opened the photo of Mars using Photoshop and I imported my photo in the same file. Secondly, I need to remove myself from the original photo. I used the quick select tool to paint myself, then I clicked the inverse function to select the unwanted background. And lastly, a simple click on the delete key will do. Lastly, I tried to make myself blend natural into the photo of Mars so it looks more realistic. I did this by lowering the fill percentage from 100% to 80% and leaving the transparency unchanged. I applied bevel and emboss function and sharpened myself except the camera. I also used eraser with about 5% flow to blend the outline. Lastly, I wanted to balance the collage photo into the same tune. I did this by using the eyedropper tool to select color from the background and applying onto me. After doing the last step inversely, it is the final edited photo.
This photo is inspired by the fact that there is no attraction of gravitation in space. With the lack of gravity, Martians can be floating everywhere. The origin photo is the Deimos, two moons of Mars, and I am taking pictures with the moons on Mars. I did the same steps to remove myself from the original photo. Quick select tool, inverse function, and delete the background. For this composition, I did it three times, so there are three me doing different actions. The original color was red, and I modified them into black and white. Then I changed the brightness of me into three level of intensity. Later, I applied the 3D function onto the background to make the moons more three-dimensional and used the Kyle style splash brush 284 to create some shades and pits on the moons. To finished up the photo, I added stars all over the photo. I modified the setting of erase, fill from 30% to 55% and size from 5 to 25. The different strengths of eraser make various size and lightness of stars. With higher fill the stars look brighter.
