TAMIZH | EXPERIMENTAL DISPLAY FONT

Here I have endeavored to create a display font which is an amalgamation of the Tamil and modern day Latin script and I have named it Tamizh. This was part of my final year submission for my elective subject, Typography. The script of Tamil has always fascinated because of its twists, notches and curves. I was a very bad at Tamil and hence always visualized a font which read in English but had the essence off the Tamil scripture.

I hope you enjoy this font as a lot of thought and effort has gone behind it and is very close to my heart.

At the beginning I went on scribbling the letter forms on pages, and that helped me identify the ones that came very close and looked the most like a Tamil letter. Once I was sure of the letter forms, I started constructing them on the computer on a grid, as shown below. The form was a little inclined to the circular style and composed mainly of 3 basic elements which were the circular notch, the curves and straight line.
With the aid of these principles I was able to come up with all the 26 letters. I made use of the grid to keep the thickness and volume of each letter constant. The constructed letter forms are shown below.

Thank you for viewing the project. Stay tuned for more!
