Imprints of Ephemeral Motion

Most cities do not spring into existence; they grow organically in sophisticated patterns. Architects and urban planners shape human movement through the process of designing the space around them. In turn, human activities influence and equally shape their surroundings over time. Imprints of Ephemeral Motion metaphorically represents this duality by transforming a long stretch of wall into an interactive space.

Imprints of Ephemeral Motion is an art project created with the objective of changing the way we perceive built environments and injecting play into the mundane everyday. The artwork transforms a stretch of wall into an interactive space. As people walk past the screen, the strands that form the pattern move in response to the direction the viewer is walking. The imprint of the person's movement is then captured in the pattern and stays in its altered state until a viewer walks by to create a new imprint. The eventual positions of the elements reflect the many imprints of the people that walk past the outdoor installation over time.
