The goal of the project was to tackle the building shared by the "Modern Theater" and the Municipal Athenian of Guadalajara in order to lodge the administrative dependencies of the Conserjería de Cultura.
The situation of the Theater and the Athenian could be metaphorically compared to two conjoined twins, condemned to a perpetual and paralyzing cuddle. Far from attempting a separating surgery, our proposal aimed to transform them into a symbiotic organism of two beings that live united for mutual benefit, reaching a complete functional autonomy.
To this aim, we proposed to maintain intact the areas occupied by the theatre and attached rooms while emptying the area occupied by the Athenian in order to create a grand foyer which would become the beating heart of the new organism. On top, we would place a floating box that would lodge the administration offices.
This flotation becomes patent in the continuous fissure that is appraised in the ceiling of the multiple use rooms, between the cover and the volume of offices.
On urban scale, the set appears like an organism made up of two pieces that engage in a dialog: a massive and opaque box holding a light and crystalline prism on top.
