Bloody Waste

Bloody Waste is a design effort by Angelica Bergman, Denise Aloandersson, Julia Strömberg and myself to normalize menstruation by changing the way it is portrayed. Our aim is to generate discussion about how we can achieve a sustainable, period-positive future together.

During my exchange semester (August 2017-January 2018) at Linnaeus University, Sweden, in the Visual Communication + Change program, for a group project in the module Change, we were expected to create an infographic regarding some form of waste.

The four of us chose to work together on the waste generated by disposable sanitary products such as pads and tampons. After initial research, we chose to present a sustainable alternative, the menstrual cup, in our infographic, to menstruating people between the ages of 15-35 years who currently use pads and tampons.
We decided to create a video that could reach our target audience on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram in collaboration with Swedish company Flowcup, a manufacturer of menstrual cups.

While all of us were equally involved in the production work for the video, which involved a great deal of storyboarding and iteration for the final visuals, we each brought different strengths to our team. My primary contributions were during the research and ideation stage of the project, and in content writing and planning our exhibition. I also worked on editing the video and the social media campaign for Bloody Waste.
