Rocking Sixties: Illustration + Photography is a project realized
for the course "Illustration and Photography History" at Isia Urbino.
In this publication I've analyses how illustration and photography
evolved during the 1960s, focusing particularly on how that process
was deeply influenced by the musical revolution of the magical '68,
digging in the wonderful world of psychedelic posters and the first
wave of gig photography.
Some of the artists I've analyzed are Victor Moscoso, Rick Griffith,
Hapshash and The Coloured Coat, Pushpin Studio for the illustrations,
and Jim Marshall, Baron Wolman, Barry Feinstein for the shoots.
The book is divided in three main parts: firstly there is a gallery of
posters and illustration by many different artists, then there is a smaller
file containing the whole essay, flanked by the relative iconographic
apparatus and at last the reader finds a gallery of photographic shots,
also from different artists.
The idea behind this layout was to gather the whole text in an
inserted file in order to present the selected artworks without the
distraction of text, as in a bidimensional gallery.
The difference between the "gallery" and the essay is remarked by
the use of two different papers, super glossy for the first one and uncoated
creamy for the second one. For the cover I used a silver glittered paper
to emphasize the psychedilic moire effect of my illustration.
