The Newsroom

I decided to create a series of images that was a satirical take on President Trump’s over and misuse of the phrase ‘Fake News’. I decided to shoot 8 separate, seemingly mundane scenes as a commentary on how Donald Trump seems quick to plaster ‘Fake News’ on anything he disagrees with. Each of these scenes also has a political undertone woven into them relating to events that have occurred throughout the Trump administration. These issues include misogyny, Medicaid/Medicare, race issues, environmental protections, emergency aid, xenophobia, healthcare, and LGBTQ+ issues.
I wanted to make sure that when someone saw one of these images that they may not be able to understand immediately. I feel as though a lot of people are quick to look at something and accept it for face value, without thinking twice about delving deeper into a subject. This is especially true with looking at the news and reading about current events. Therefore, the ideas behind each of these images is something that needs to discovered by analyzing the images in their context and/or by learning about them through other means.
All eight of the images were shot on a Canon TX and were developed by hand in a darkroom before being painted over with red paint.
