Modular Typeface

During this process, we were given five different shapes in which we had to form letters using the rules of typography. This process enabled me to create a number of different letterforms. It got me to appreciate each letter form. It allowed me to explore how a limited amount of resources can create such unique and intriguing letterforms with the freedom to form the unexpected.

This process gave me an insight into how typefaces are constructed both physically and digitally. Modular typefaces are a really powerful tool in the creation of bespoke type treatments and helped me produce pieces of art.

A modular typeface is an alphabet constructed out of a limited number of shapes. 

This design was influenced by my previous experiment which has led me to use and transform the shapes subtly by rotating and flipping them to create an entire alphabet.
