IO (“me” in italian and also an acronym for Inside Out) is a lighting fixture that represents the concept of “life”, understanding it as a constant reciprocity between self-introspection and exposure, and all the moments in within. Therefore, it is intended to use light as a reflection of us, of our state in life.
Concept moodboard
It is made out of OLED strips embedded into a silicone body that accentuates the flexibility features of this particular light source. This soft body cylinder emits a strong direct-indirect light when closed for more private scenarios . Just as we open ourselves to the world to show our essence, IO can be turned inside out to start unveiling a wider angle of light and achieve diffused lighting for more public and exposed moments.
IO explores soft materials that can match and enhance OLEDs, widening its reach into new fields of application. Not only it allows to shift between states of light, but it also provides spatial flexibility: by attaching another silicon body, a wire, a longer pole, a stand or a hanger to the main control module, IO is able to become a pendant lamp, a wall lamp, a floor stand or a table lamp.
