This was my final project for my Illustrator II class. We had to create a cereal or pet food box. Since I had already done a project that semester whose logo was inspired by my cat (check out my Kitty Cat Cosmetics project) I decided to dedicate this one to my childhood dog who recently turned 10. We had to create our logos in Photoshop. I was just messing around and stumbled on the chrome texture. The 1950's feel of the front and texture inspired the rest of the imagery.
All other graphics were done in Illustrator, excluding the nutrition facts panel which were provided by my teacher (I don't think pet food needs that type of nutrition info but it was required by my instructor), the food bowl which is a PNG from the internet and the Dogswell logo which is an actual brand.

Initially, my design featured a small, white dog similar to my real dog. This worked fine for the purposes of the project, however, for my portfolio I decided to replace him with a golden retriever. I felt like that breed worked well with the color scheme and enhanced the "all American" feel. Also, there was a lack of contrast on the white dog which caused him to look very flat. The golden retriever's coat provided much more contrast and color variance so I think it helped strengthen the piece significantly in a variety of ways. I have included an image of the original design for comparison.
I struggled with the 3D perspective on this project. In the mock-up the diamonds do not line up. However, the box was designed to have them do this (as seen in the flat design). I'm not sure if the fact that my computer is not very well equipped to handle 3D work or my lack of skills are to blame for this but I did my best.
