Over the past decade, the smartphone has become a portal for the digital management of daily life. Consumers use their pocket computers to bank, buy and befriend. Now that array of activities is due to expand. Last week, Apple announced that the next major software update for the iPhone would include a feature called Health Records, which will allow users to view, manage and share their health care records. Running in Apple’s Health app, the new feature will bring together medical data from hospitals, clinics and the iPhone itself, giving individuals direct control of their own data.
