Unkidnapped is a student film made as part of a classroom project, about a group of inexperienced kidnappers and their (mis) adventures in executing their boss's orders. It is a film primarily in a bastardised mixture of Tamil and broken English. This is not that film. This is the title graphics for that film.
We wanted the title graphics to remain true to the spirit of the film - a very hand done aesthetic, very crude and impulsive - the spirit of the small-time crooks who are the protagonists of the story. Feeling that digital motion graphics wouldn't work in the direction we
envisioned, we decided to do them by hand.
The title graphics draw visual reference from ransom notes, with letters cut out from different sources, like newspapers and magazines. We cut and sorted letters, then shot the video while arranging them.
