In 2018, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Justin "Jungle" Jung along with Vancity Original to create a special project inspired by the music that influences me as an illustrator. Our initial concept of this project was intended to represent Vancouver's clash of cultures mainly in music, art and design. We both embarked on a journey to create something necessary for us and the Vancouver art scene. The project quickly evolved and we took the opportunity to align it with the celebration of the 2018 Chinese New Year. My illustrations rapidly evolved from a wide range of cultural influences into something that represents the versatility of the Chinese community that embraced us. As part of the multiculturalism we breathe in Vancouver every day, we intended to create something completely different for the Year of the Dog celebration; I created a 5 Illustration collection that would evoke Chinese, Japanese, Mexican and American influences with a strong punk energy.
All the illustrations were inspired by the landscape, culture and people in Vancouver. I associated and mixed all these with my personal experience living here and tried to tied them up with something the young would feel related with.
The launch event at Fortune Soundclub was well received by the local community and It was great to see people from so many different backgrounds celebrating the launch of the collection and the Year of the Dog with us.
